 Employed since 1983

Gary graduated from high school at Franklin’s BattleGroundAcademy in 1979, and went on to earn Civil Engineering and Master of Business Administration degrees from VanderbiltUniversity.  Gary’s experience started in high school pouring concrete, working as a “rod buster” and in various other “boots on the ground” positions.  After college, he worked as an Estimator/Project Manager for several years and progressed into the position of chief financial officer.  In 1998, he oversaw the start-up of what evolved into SiteSolutions, the company’s heavy civil division and in 2003, oversaw the creation of Parkes Development Group, the related real estate development company, where he focuses most of his time, presently.  He is knowledgeable in design, construction, acquisition, financing, leasing, management, and legal fields related to real estate and construction.  His favorite projects include the Fontanel, Barbara Mandrell’s 28,000 sf log residence; Beaulieu of America’s fast-track design-build, first integrated carpet mill in the U.S.; the Glenbrook 200 acre mixed use development; and the NashvilleWestShopping Center with 800,000 sf mixed use development.

Gary enjoys bicycling, running, hiking, ballroom dancing, opera, foxhunting, riding at a blistering pace over fences behind hounds (you have seen the paintings, yes people still do this!) and playing ice hockey.  He also enjoys vacationing while snow skiing, backpacking, mountaineering (out west is the best!) and sailing.  He is married to a lovely wife and watching four great children mature into fascinating young adults.
